It’s back to the norm in September without any travelling and much discretionary expenses. Just when I thought last month’s Net Savings rate was going to be my all-time record high, I’ve smashed it yet again this month, recording a 83.92% Net Savings rate in September. Booyah!
Commuting charges on the B.M.W (bus, MRT, walk) is up by 25% as I haven’t cycled much this month because to the haze. No point saving money and destroying my health in the process.
I’ve come to realise that when there’s an increase in the use of public transportation, food expenses increase in proportionally as well. It’s so easy to be lured into a restaurant on the way home!
Grocery expenses is pretty close to my spendings in August. I didn’t manage to rein in my spendings here as planned, but lots of ingredients like sausages, herbs (for Chinese soup) and baking needs will spill over to October so hopefully I’m not going to have to spend so much next month. I’ve also starting to bake a lot more with my Airfryer now (yes you can apparently bake with an Airfryer) so I’m eating more variety of food compared to the usual stir-fry and soups.
The retail bug hasn’t bitten me this month so I haven’t spent a whole lot in this category this month. I wish I could say I’ve only bought things that were necessary, but that’s not always the case. The ‘big’ ticket item this month is a skewer tray for my Airfryer so that I could roast skewers of meat to pack to work for lunch.
Entertainment spendings is lower than last month but is still quite high with the occasional drinks with colleagues. I’ve also watched 2 movies (Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and 3688) in the cinemas this month.
I didn’t spend a whole lot of miscellaneous things this month. Only $12 on personal care and a $280 donation for the Ride for Rainbow cycling event that’s happening later this year. I’ll also be doing the 100km ride around Singapore to support the event.
Total expenses for September: $1783.54 (including fixed expenses of $891.28)
The 6-month MMAE Index continues to inch downwards to 1740.
